Rental aid: Here's where you can find help in every state

President Trump’s moratorium on evictions may have extended the deadline to December 31, but it has left out a key piece of aid. Renters could owe any back rent as a lump sum to their landlords when January arrives.

But there are state-level nonprofits that can help struggling renters make their rent now, or possibly help those pay back deferred rent when the moratorium expires. To qualify for this rental assistance, renters must be prepared to make their case.

“Individuals who are having trouble paying their rent or mortgages payments have to be diligent and resourceful,” said Aisha Thomas, attorney at AJT Law in Atlanta. “They have to be prepared to show that they have a hardship and to provide copies of late invoices, dispossessory notices, etc.”

To help those renters struggling to stretch their wallets, Cashay compiled a list of resources for those seeking aid, largely based off data compiled by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, a trade organization.
